Since the new technology era arises, having an account on social networking website is popular among the people. However, people might do not use their own identity to create their account on SNS, they can own the SNS identity whatever they want the identity to be, there are no limits on it. Thus, second identity which means that is another identity owned by the same person.
Why second identity?
People do have a different perception and purpose of using
SNS. There are people enjoyed themselves and being themselves in SNS. They love
to share about their life, communicate with friends, doing the thing that used
to be done in SNS. But, there are also people use a second identity on SNS different
purpose. These are a few examples of
using their own account on SNS but being as their second identity.
A Facebook fan page apparently is purposely created by a person, but is not appearing as his or her own identity, it is created for another objective.

Moreover, there is an online avatar game named Second Life,
developed by Linden Lab was launched on June 23. This is a free accessed virtual world open to all. Second Life users can generate a virtual character of
themselves, which is called avatar. Users of Second Life are able to discover the world in this game, to build the house or building they like, to shop and buy the virtual object, and they also able to trade and purchase services in this game.The main function of Second Life is that the users are able to interact with other users, in an avatar way. Second Life also owns their virtual money, which is exchangeable
with the real world money.
Here is a real life story of Alice Krueger. Krueger is an
active user of Second Life and she thinks that Second Life can make her life
better. In real life, Krueger is 63 years old and she is in a wheelchair. She has been diagnosed numerous sclerosis and difficult to walk. In the virtual life, she creates an
avatar that she calls Gentle Heron. As Gentle Heron, she has no restriction on
her physical activities. She can walk, dance, ride horse and even fly. She said
that she met friends in the virtual world, they were talking about their lives,
sharing their thoughts with the people who has the similar situation with her.
She said that she did not want to just sit in her room doing nothing because of
her disabilities, the thing she can’t do in the real world, she can do in the
virtual world.

This phenomena, creating a second identity are being done
due to many factors. One of the factors is that Internet is freely accessible
by everyone. People want a platform or an opportunity to do the things that
cannot do in the real world. For those business owners created SNS account for
their business, it is because SNS platforms are free, it is useful for them to
run their business online with no financial problem. And for Kruegre, she is
living her dream in Second Life instead of real life.
Criminals on second identity
However, second identity on the internet may be unsafe. It’s
usually easy involves cybercrime happened. SNS such as Facebook has become one
of the criminal tools to commit crime like rape, murder, kidnap, death threats
and fraud by a temporary second identity.
Here is a kidnap, rape and murder case happened. Peter
Chapman, the rapist uses a fake profile on Facebook to commit the
crime. He posed as a good looking boy by using a fake
profile photo to trap a 17 year old girl, Ashleigh Hall, into
his trap. He met Ashleigh up by acting he is the father of the boy which he posed in Facebook. Right after Ashleigh entered his car, he attacked her.
Ashleigh’s body was discovered dumped in a farmer’s field.

In 2014, a woman cheated of RM250K by a Facebook lover. This
case happened in Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu. A 48-year-old single lady had a love
relationship with a foreign friend from Facebook named Henry John. She helps her boyfriend make the payments to cover the procedure fees of transferring the cheque worth US$7.5 million under her boyfriend’s name to finance his project in Malaysia. Unfortunately, she found out this trap after she failed to contact
her boyfriend after the payments.

No one knows the real identity of the user, people only able
to observe, view and watch them through online. SNS have been used by almost everyone
in the world, it is beneficial to the people because we are able to connect with
our friends and other people from different places or countries. However, there
are many criminals are using SNS to commit the crime. SNS has
no restriction on the quantity of account, as long as the user register it with
their email and put the user name they like. The demographic of the user can be
anything, no one knows that is a real or a fake information. Only the users
themselves know about it.
Therefore, meeting new people on SNS is not safe. However,
this issue has gone beyond the control of a state. Have you experience any

I strongly agree to the this article. It is difficult for us to identify the true identity of the users of SNS.
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends had created two Facebook account. One of the accounts is truly about himself and the other one is "fake". The "fake" account portray himself as a positive and friendly guy but he is a lazy, untidy, emotional and irresponsible guy in reality. He used a photo of a handsome guy which downloaded from Google as his profile picture. Then, he added a lots of unknown friends from whole over the world by using this "fake" account. The purpose of creating this "fake" account is to attract and make friends with more people. He even use this account to invite girls to meet him face to face. He told me that he able to know more people and he felt less lonely after he created a "fake" account. More people were willing to add him as friends in this second Facebook.
This example showed us that we must be very careful while using SNS. We should not trust anyone in SNS because people showed second identity instead of showing the true color of themselves. There are a lots of news reported that girls were cheated by others in Facebook or girls run away from home with the other guys they knew each other through Facebook. This is because they put all their trust on the people who they meet on Facebook but it always causes negative consequences to them either the girls is kidnapped or they are being cheated to paid for a huge amount of money.
So, children should be educated on how to protect themselves while using SNS. Besides, parents should guide their children especially for those children who are the new users of SNS.
I feel sad reading about the second identity. The root cause might be because the peoples are not happy with themselves. And what causes people to be unhappy with themselves is all the judgement and stereotyping. We have magazines and newspaper to tell us what's the 'Right' way of dressing; who is trendy; slim is good. New media especially after the existence of internet helps promotes such culture. Peoples are being criticised by strangers, because they are different. So, peoples seek happiness by creating second identity. Their second identity can bring out the image they want, but cannot have. They live as the person they really want to be in the virtual world. It really saddens me to see peoples who are so unhappy with their lives and their own selves. As you have mentioned, Alice Krueger who created an avatar because she has disability. She might has found happiness by doing that. But is she really happy? She should leave the game, go out and hang out with friends, find peoples who can share her stories and gain REAL HAPPINESS.

SNS like FB actually has age limitation, however the supervision is not strict, causing a lot of underage to still apply for a FB membership. The children are not only exposed to negative things, they are also vulnerable to bad peoples and bad influences. Parents should be aware of these new media. Education system, too, should follow the trend, and teaches the children more about media ethics.

ReplyDeleteKadang manusia tidak mempunyai pilihan lalu memilih untuk menjadi orang lain. Sebenarnya, mahu sedar atau tidak setiap daripada kita mempunyai personaliti yang berbeza-beza. Bezanya dengan identiti kedua, kita menggunakan laman media sosial sebagai medium bagi mewujudkan identiti baru kita. Namun, secara realiti terdapat segilintir masyarakat yang benar-benar mempraktikkan identiti kedua ini bak kata pepatah 'rambut sama hitam, hati lain-lain'.
Walaupun begitu, kewujudan identiti kedua ini sebenarnya membawa satu medium baru kepada masyarakat untuk menunjukkan bakat kreativiti mereka. Sebagai contoh yang ditunjukkan dalam artikel ini, video-video yang diolah oleh Ryan Higa. Tidak dapat kita nafikan, masyarakat kini dahagakan hiburan dari semasa ke semasa. Kewujudan orang-orang yang kreatif dengan mewujudkan identiti kedua ini sedikit sebanyak menjadi sumber hiburan mereka.
Namun begitu, terdapat natijah hasil daripada pembentukan identiti kedua ini. Seperti kes yang dialami oleh Ashleigh Hall, kewujudan identiti kedua ini melahirkan ramai Mr Hyde dan Jekyll kedunia. Hanya berdindingkan skrin komputer semata-mata, manusia boleh berubah mengikut acuan yang mereka inginkan. Maka, perkara ini menyumbang kepada permasalahan seperti kes-kes jenayah rogol dan kes penipuan.
Kesimpulannya, kewujudan identiti kedua ini sebenarnya tidak dapat dibendung serta-merta. Hal ini kerana, setiap manusia mempunyai personaliti yang berbeza mahu di depan atau di sebalik skrin komputer atau secara realitinya. Apa yang dapat diikhtiarkan ialah penggunaan identiti kedua sebagai satu medium ke arah yang lebih positif bukan menimbulkan kekecohan dan membawa impak negatif semata-mata.

Pada pendapat saya, mereka yang mempunyai identiti ke-dua atas talian merupakan orang yang kurang atau tidak mempunyai keyakinan terhadap diri sendiri. Hal ini demikian kerana mereka lebih selesa menjadi orang lain berbanding diri mereka yang sebenar. Dengan adanya media baru serta wujudnya laman sosial, telah membuka peluang kepada golongan-golongan ini untuk membuat akaun yang palsu, berbeza dengan identiti mereka.
Mereka yang mempunyai lebih dari dua identiti di atas talian ini mempunyai agenda yang tersendiri melainkan mereka yang bertujuan untuk memberikan hiburan seperti Vlogger terkenal di atas, Ryan Higa serta peniaga-peniaga atas talian yang memerlukan privacy. Pada pendapat saya, mereka yang tidak mempunyai tujuan yang jelas untuk membuat akaun palsu ini mempunyai niat yang jahat atau tidak disenangi oleh masyarakat umum. Seperti yang kita ketahui, terma pahlawan papan kekunci atau 'keyboard warrior' semakin terkenal pada hari ini yang membawa maksud individu yang cuma lancang bersuara di atas talian. Dari apa yang saya perhatikan, 'keyboard warrior' ini kebanyakannya menggunakan identiti kedua atau akaun palsu kerana mereka tidak mahu bertanggungjawab terhadap perkara-perkara yang telah mereka tulis. Oleh itu, saya menganggap mereka yang berbuat sedemikian adalah pengecut kerana meninggalkan mesej dengan menggunakan identiti ke-dua yang tidak jelas.
Apabila berbicara mengenai pengalaman, saya sudah banyak kali menerima 'private message' daripada orang-orang yang tidak dikenali. Individu-individu ini menggunakan gambar wanita yang sangat cantik dan berpura-pura menjadi orang tersebut. Saya sememangnya sedia maklum akan permasalahan seperti ini yang mana mereka mempunyai motif untuk menipu demi mendapatkan wang. Situasi ini pernah berlaku terhadap rakan sendiri apabila gambarnya telah diambil dan disunting kepada gambar lucah. Penipu itu seterusnya mengugut rakan saya untuk memberikannya sejumlah wang agar gambar tersebut tidak disebarkan kepada umum. Setelah menerima nasihat daripada kawan-kawan yang lain, dia bertindak untuk 'unfriend' dan 'block' pengguna tersebut. Perkara seperti ini seharusnya tidak patut dibiarkan berleluasa kerana semakin hari, semakin ramai yang menjadi mangsa kepada penipuan atas talian yang berpunca daripada mereka yang membuat akaun identiti kedua ini.

Bagi sesetengah orang, menggunakan identiti kedua ini adalah untuk tujuan suka-suka malah ada juga segelintir orang menggunakan identiti kedua ini atas sebab untuk menjatuhkan maruah orang lain. Sebagai contoh, menggunakan 'fake account' di laman sosial seperti facebook. Ingin dijadikan cerita bahawa baru-baru ini seorang daripada teman saya mengadu bahawa gambar miliknya telah digunakan oleh individu lain untuk dijadikan gambar profil akaunnya. Apa yang sangat menyedihkan apabila, setiap 'post' melalui garis masa (timeline) akaun itu berunsurkan sesuatu yang negatif. Persoalannya adalah kenapa perlu menjadi orang lain? Bagaimana sekiranya orang lain melakukan perkara yang sama terhadap individu tersebut? Tepuk dada tanya selera.
Berdasarkan apa yang telah saya kongsikan di atas, ia terbukti bahawa penggunaan identiti kedua bukanlah sesuatu yang baik. Jadi, sebaik-baiknya kita sebagai pengguna perlu sedar bahawa kita adalah diri kita bukan orang lain. Justeru, kecanggihan teknologi alam maya adalah punca utama yang membawa kepada pembentukan identiti kedua ini. Kita hanya perlu bijak menggunakannya.
Hi, Inphiniti. I would like to share my opinion about business using second identity. Actually, I had created my another FB account, but is for the business purpose. As the article mentioned, many business owners like to open online account for themselves is because of the free accessibility. I created a Facebook account for my small boutique online business because it was really convenience, almost every customer that purchase clothing with me are those peoples that I did not know. We are strangers to each other, but we believe in each other to get what we want. Customer pay to get their stock, I received money and post the stock to them.
ReplyDeleteThe supplier that I get my stocks also via online. There is an online shopping website call Taobao, origin from China. I visited the store through internet only, and I make my order via online system, and make payment to him or her. I don’t even know the supplier, but I just trusted him or her. We have the ethics in doing business I guess, all we wanted is to build up our business. Therefore, we trusted each other, even though we are using an online identity only.
But, I believe there is a risk in doing online business or online shopping. My friend had been cheated during her online shopping last year. She wanted to purchase a present for her boyfriend, after she make the payments, the owner only told her the stock will arrive soon. However, after a long period, my friend still did not receive it yet. She keeps contact and call the owner, but no one answer or reply it. So, her money was gone.
As a conclusion, many cyber crime cases happened because the second identity user can use fake information to commit crime. As a smart buyer, we have to be alert and do read more information about the business owner. Find out their loyalty, previous sale order from another customer and feedback. By collecting all this information, we can avoid cheating case happen.

ReplyDeleteSaya bersetuju dengan penulis bahawa banyak kewujudan identiti ke dua dalam talian melalui media sosial pada masa kini. Namun tidak semua sebab kewujudan identiti kedua untuk tujuan yang negatif.
Berdasarkan pengalaman yang dikongsi kan oleh sahabat saya, beliau memiliki 2 akaun facebook. Namun beliau tetap menggunakan gambar dan nama penuh beliau bagi kedua-dua akaun facebook beliau. Alasan beliau memiliki dua akaun facebook adalah lebih mudah untuk beliau menjaga privacy beliau. Bagi akaun pertama, beliau hanya berkawan dengan keluarga, saudara mara dan sahabat yang tinggal sama kampung sahaja. Ini akan memudahkan beliau untuk berhubung dengan keluarga dan saudara mara-mara yang jauh. Bagi akaun ke dua, beliau berkawan dengan sesiapa sahaja termasuk kawan sama sekolah atau universiti. Segala aktiviti yang melibatkan sekolah atau universiti, belia hanya akan menggunakan akaun ke dua. Belia tidak mencampur adukkan urusan keluarga/peribadi dan urusan sekolah/universiti beliau.
Kesimpulannya, bagi saya, tiada masalah jika kita memiliki identiti yang kedua asalkan kita menggunakannya untuk tujuan yang betul. Dan, bagi saya, penyamaran dalam media sosial untuk tujuan yang negatif adalah salah dan oleh itu kita sebagai pengguna media sosial harus bijak menggunakan media sosial supaya tidak menjadi mangsa.

ReplyDeletePenggunaan laman sosial sememangnya satu pinca yang sangat besar menyebabkan kewujudan identity kedua ini. Terdapat beberapa sebab identity kedua ini wujud iaitu kurangnya keyakinan terhadap diri sendiri sehingga menyebabkan seseorang itu menggunakan gambar palsu sebagai profil laman sosial mereka. Hal ini juga disebabkan oleh tekanan yang diberikan dari masyarakat kita sendiri kerana kebanyakkan masyarakat lebih berminat dengan gambar yang cantik atau kacak untuk dijadikan sebagai kawan di laman sosial. Selain itu, identity kedua ini juga wujud apabila seseorang itu tidak ingin diketahui oleh seetengah orang dari segi aktiviti yang mereka lakukan dalam facebook.
Saya juga memiliki satu lagi laman ssosial yang tidak menggunakan maklumat sebenar mengenai diri saya dan laman ini saya gunakan atas tujuan pencarian maklumat kerana Projek Akhir Tahun saya memerlukan saya untuk follow beberapa laman sosial yang memeprjuangkan sesebuah ideology. Saya menggunakan laman yang palsu untuk melindungi keselamatan maklumat peribadi saya yang asal.
Oleh itu, kewujudan identity kedua ini terpulang kepada seseorang individu itu sendiri untuk menggunakannya kerana kita tidak boleh terlalu jujur dengan orang-orang yang kurang kita kenali.

ReplyDeleteSetakat ini, saya belum pernah lagi menghadapi isu sebegini lebih-lebih lagi menjadi mangsa kepada jenayah siber. Hal ini adalah kerana saya jarang sekali meluangkan masa mengakses laman-laman social seperti Facebook, WeChat, dan juga Whatsapp. Saya hanya akan membuka aplikasi tersebut jika perkara yang dikongsikan memerlukan perhatian saya ataupun mempunyai kesan terhadap saya. Selain itu juga, jika terdapat friend request, saya jarang sekali meluluskan permintaan tersebut lebih-lebih lagi jika saya langsung tidak mengenali pemilik akaun tersebut. Dengan cara ini secara tidak langsung saya dapat mengelakkan diri daripada menjadi mangsa siber.
Berkenaan dengan identity kedua, saya sendiri tidak pasti sama adaia dikategorikan sebagai identity kedua ataupun tidak. Tapi setakat ini, saya hanya pernah mencipta satu watak dalam permainan bola sepak Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) yang mana, ciri-ciri pemain tersebut saya reka mengikut kehendak saya sendiri. Dengan erti kata lain, saya menganggap pemain tersebut adalah diri saya yang memiliki kebolehan yang sempurna dalam bole sepak. Malah, saya menamakan pemain tersebut bersempena dengan nama saya iaitu Macdonald. Tujuannya hanya untuk permainan bola sepak itu semata-mata dan langsung tidak memberi impak kepada orang di sekeliling saya. Ia hanyalah untuk kepuasan diri saya.
Cara penyelesaian masalah seperti yang dinyatakan di dalam artikel di atas sememangnya sukar untuk dikesan. Hal ini kerana selagi kewujudan internet masih kekal, selagi itulah jenayah siber terus berlaku. Perkara yang paling penting ialah berhati-hati dan jangan sesekali mempercayai info ataupun pujukan yang diterima melalui internet ataupun SNS.

Kelebihan yang saya maksudkan adalah sebagai pengguna teknologi kita dapat membuat identiti palsu mengikut kepetingan keperibadian kita. Merujuk artikel yang ditulis, identiti kedua ini kebanyakannya memberi kesan buruk seperti jenayah. Kadang-kadang kita hanya ingin berkawan dengan seseorang dalam laman sosial namun kita tidak tahu pihak lain ingin mengambil kesempatan terhadap kita terutama sekali melibatkan jenayah.
Pada pandangan saya, sebagai pengguna teknologi yang serba canggih ini kita perlu cakna dan mengamalkan etika-etika dengan mengambil langkah berjaga-jaga. Walaupun tidak semua individu mempunyai niat yang jahat dengan membuat identiti kedua, tetapi langkah berjaga-jaga perlu diambil kerana semakin canggih teknologi kini, semakin mudah untuk penjenayah melakukan jenayah dengan hanya menekan papan kekunci telefon mudah alih mahupun gadget-gadget lain.
Untuk mengelakkan perkara yang tidak diingini berlaku, sebagai pengguna kita perlulah berahsia dengan kenalan-kenalan di alam maya terutama sekali tentang maklumat peribadi. Di samping itu, janganlah kita berkongsi tentang setiap aktiviti dan tempat yang kita lawati kerana ini juga boleh merisikokan diri terhadap jenayah yang tidak diingini.
